Penang Nasi Kandar

A trip to penang with good penang food.
As soon as we reached Penang at about 12:30pm. We were hungry animals and went off for lunch locating and finding where this Nasi Kandar shop was. Heard it was good and went for it. The Nasi Kandar place is named Nasi Kandar Merlin. How ironic.... the old hotel above the shop is a old hotel named Hotel Merlin, so.................................................. Nasi Kandar Merlin It Is.

When we arrived, i couldn't help notice that the area gave me a certain type of chill.... a good chilled atmosphere i might say. It's buildings has a colonial kinda feel to it, which is very nice. HSBC bank is also located within the area, so is Maybank. Don't know why so many banks in the area. Anyway, these building with banks are one of the oldest in Malaysia, actually i think it is the oldest bank in Malaysia, "gotta brush up on my history". If not mistaken, the 1st Malaysian bank was the HSBC building.

One thing for you ppl to know is that this Nasi Kandar Merlin closes at 2pm or 3pm, so if your late then "thank you very much" already. Yup, they only open for lunch and the lunch crowd is quite crazy, not to mention that the place is also small. So come early. I wouldn't say that this is the best Nasi Kandar in Malaysia but it is one of the best I've tasted thou. So many Nasi Kandar, so little time.

So okay, the food. Fried chicken is awesome, but please always get the one's that are fresh out the Kuali(Cooking Wok). Chicken is moist and well seasoned. I think there's kunyit in it(Tumeric) hence the golden color of the chicken. The squid in curry is also nice, according to my friends. I didn't try the squid cause i don't eat squid, unless its deep fried then different story. Don't forget the vegetable, they had cabbage fried with mustard seeds and tumeric and also ladies fingers. Having those 2 vegetables compliments the dish really well. Oh yeah, eating Nasi Kandar without the curry's is like a SIN. Always must have Kuah Campur or mixed curry. If you rather not have it spicy then just inform the server that you don't want it spicy and he will kindly cater to your needs unless your talking to the server who doesn't speaks English then different story. Anyway, you can have the curry's on the side if you want. Lamb Curry, Fish Curry is also on the menu but we didn't order any. For the drinks its like any other coffee shop. Canned drink, packet drinks and tea&coffee are also available to quench that thirst of yours. Nice iced cold coca-cola did it for me, the spiciness and hot hot sun was just no match for it.

Final words from me? --
Don't eat so much Nasi Kandar, after get heart attack then you know. LoL
